Relationship between Attachment Styles and Risky Behaviors of Adolescents: The Mediating Role of Cognitive Emotion Regulation in Adolescents

Abstract :
From the perspective of develop-mental psychology, adolescence can be considered a period of review of psychological symptoms. The aim of this study is to investigate the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the relationship bet-ween attachment styles and risky behaviors of adolescents. The statistical population is all adolescents in the first and second years of high school in Khuzestan province in the academic year 2022-23, of which 349 people were selected through convenience sampling. The measurement tools included the Risk-Awareness Scale (IARS), the Attachment Style Scale (AAQ), and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Scale (CERQ-P). The results of simultaneous and stepwise covariance analysis showed that there is an inverse relationship between difficulty in cognitive emotion regulation and risky behavior, and a positive relationship between attachment style and risky behavior (P> 0.01). Also, cognitive emotion regulation has a mediating role between attachment style and risky behavior and is indirectly effective. The results showed that cognitive emotion regulation strategies and attachment styles have an effect on impulsive and risky behaviors.
